New technologies have completely transformed society. Indeed, the appearance of social networks, television, the Internet etc... has had a huge impact on the world population, on social relations but also on the field of work or sports. Indeed, sports have undergone colossal changes with the evolution of global media coverage.
First, the communication has been resized. Social networks make it possible to prove, share content but also to communicate between the different actors. This is valid for the athletes but also for the clubs and the various actors which surround the sport. Fans have the possibility to follow their favorite teams and athletes via all possible social networks (Youtube, twitter, snapchat, instagram, facebook etc ...)
From July to August, the Olympic Games were held in Japan, in Tokyo. The media coverage of this event was incredible across the world in different countries and time zones. The event was present everywhere, whether on social networks or on television. Indeed, anyone could follow the event and react to it on different social networks.
For the fourth time in a row, the American basketball players won gold by winning 87-82 against France. Indeed, after a defeat against the same French team in the first group match, the Americans were perfect until the final. Kevin Durant was the leader of this team, helped by Jrue Holiday the Milwaukee Bucks player, and Jayson Tatum the Boston Celtics player. Being in France during the summer vacation, I followed the matches from my campsite. Even if the match was broadcast at night around 1 am or 4 am for the final, many people were present in the TV room. Indeed, France television offered the possibility of broadcasting all the matches of the France team as well as the big matches of the competition in clear (free). The media coverage was such that inside the campsite, the main subject was the Olympics and the French results.
The example of the Tokyo Olympics shows the extent to which the evolution of global media coverage makes it possible to promote and make it accessible to this great competition throughout the world. It's amazing to think that anywhere on the planet, at any time, you can watch a big sporting event as if you were there.
