Impacted by covid 19, Intercollegiate Athletics teams increasingly need financial assistance to grow their programs. All NCAA teams now need innovation in their fundraising more than ever. This money collected will aim to improve the comfort of the athletes and their performances (Hotel, Physiotherapy, equipment, trips, photos, etc.)
Firstly, it’s important to say Club boosters exist to financially support these sports programs. They are generally led by university staff, students, or retirees for example. Sports boosters can rely on sales of tickets to matches, events, contests, etc. Moreover, that The NCAA controls these fundraisers to ensure they are done within the rules and to give everyone a level playing field.
I have a lot of advices to give to coaches, assistant coaches, and leaders of varsity athletic teams. There are several techniques to increase your chances of fundraising. First of all, it is important to have connections and relationships within the city of the university but also through the students past on the team. In fact, it is important to stay with former players as long as possible as they may become donors to the program in the future.
In addition, communication on social networks is a primary means of raising money for the program. Promote events, run contests, use the giving day wisely, etc. For the communication aspect, it is important to have in your staff a person who is very comfortable with sites, social networks, audiovisuals etc. Because this person will be your best asset on the net. To conclude, my point of view is that to be successful in fundraising, specifically for university teams, you have to know how to create strong bonds and relationships. And be active on the net, with well-targeted and strategic communication.
