This week was Week 6, each day progresses and we are slowly approaching the end The purpose of this week’s activities was to increase our awareness of the finances available for sports through organizations and foundations willing to fund training. Indeed, On studied Fundraising and Grants in detail.
This week, the post discussion has been replaced by group work. We had to choose a city in which we received funds to build a new sports arena. With my classmates, Ross and Tommy, we chose the city of Columbus Ohio. I realized the enormous work that such a project requires. Funding is the first big step to take. One of the ways that can be used when funding is to tax local people. This will allow some people to feel involved in the project. Many stadiums have used this method to ensure the proper functioning of stadium funding. The state can also participate, but most of the time this project management starts with a large investor.
Additionally, in this week's blog class, we looked at the Tony Hawk Foundation. Tony Hawk, the skateboarding legend himself, created his own non-profit organization in 2002. His foundation aims to develop quality places to practice skateboarding by providing an opportunity for children from disadvantaged communities. The website also allows anyone to donate. This provides grants for the foundation ranging from $ 1,000 to $ 300,000. The foundation has very specific criteria on where to import the skatepark. They want underprivileged children to benefit as much as possible and not that skateparks benefit others. In my project, I chose the city of Akron Ohio. I did a city study on different criteria, population demographics, median household income, per capita income, average gross rent, and average household value. I realized that children don't necessarily have a lot of places to have fun, even more so in a fairly poor city like Akron, with poor neighborhoods galore. For the record, I also chose this city because it is the birthplace of Lebron James, my favorite basketball player.
During this week I was also very active on my blog. Indeed, I produced 5 articles during this week. The first was an article devoted to the extraordinary story of Miami Heat franchise player Jimmy Butler. The second article was about Steev Kerr who would potentially replace Gregg Popovic at the helm of Team USA. Then, the 3rd post was about the return of Klay Thompson in the league. Indeed, the golden state rear is making a comeback after almost 2 years of hiatus. We all can't wait to see the best wrestling and shooter in the league in action this year. Next, the 4th was about Kyrie, and how much money he could lose because of his intention not to want to get the shot. Then to finish, We gave news of potential MVP Giannis Antetokumpo who is training in Greece before coming back to shake the league. This week was intense and interesting. I can't wait to continue for Week 7.
